Mysti Krewe of Nimbus to announce Portland Mardi Gras Ball Theme January 6th 2013

It is almost time to put the Christmas ornaments away, and get ready to party.

Jan. 6 is the “Twelfth Night” of Christmas, and marks the Feast of the Epiphany in the Catholic calendar and the traditional start of Carnival season in the party calendar, which in New Orleans and elsewhere around the fun-loving world culminates in Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, the last chance to indulge in fine food, music, costumes and dancing before Lent.

Tradition also dictates that Jan. 6 is the day that krewes, the private clubs that march in parades and throw elaborate balls, announce the theme of their Mardi Gras ball.

And Mysti Krewe of Nimbus, Portland’s own Mardi Gras krewe, lives for these traditions.

The Mysti Krewe will announce the theme for this years’ ball on Jan. 6.

This year’s costume ball will be the third presented by the krewe. It’s scheduled for Feb. 9, and will again be at the Bossanova Ballroom. Tickets are $25, and are available now through the website, Bossanova Ballroom.

As before, the ball will feature Louisiana music, including Atomic Gumbo and Too Loose Cajun Band, and special guests including keyboard favorite DK Stewart. There will be food, dancing, costume contests, the crowning of the king and queen, and general hilarity!
